Affordable Housing For Income Between RM2,500 to RM10,000

23rd April, 2018

Malaysian housing projects offered by the government have good initials to providing affordable housing to lower-income folk. These housing projects, like the recent completion of part of the MRT network and expansion of the LRT lines in Kuala Lumpur, are important to the government. These projects are heavily subsidised by the government, at a time when similar private condominium units are sold at double or three times the price. The Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations (Fomca) calls on the government to ensure that priority is given to homes Malaysians can truly afford. The government needs to intervene and regulate the private sector to supply more affordable homes. The government also decided to strengthen measures to eliminate speculation in the market, which inflates home prices. Polices should make speculation expensive to protect first-time home buyers.

The government has been focusing on providing affordable housing in the recent years. The recent Budget 2018 gave the housing sector an allocation of RM2.2 billion, with over 50,000 units being prepared under the affordable housing programme and more financing programmes such as PR1MA to help Malaysian citizens afford their first homes.

Housing is a basic right of consumers. It is the government’s role to ensure that all Malaysian have access to affordable homes. So here are few affordable housing schemes for middle class household whose net income is between RM 2500 to RM 10000.
